What LSVT BIG is
LSVT BIG is a standardised physical therapy protocol developed for people with Parkinson’s disease. It trains large-amplitude movement through a set course of sixteen sessions, delivered four days a week for four consecutive weeks, plus daily homework.
It is called standardised for a reason. The structure, the intensity and the progression are defined, and the clinician delivering it has to be certified. Lindsey Bolin is LSVT BIG certified and delivers the whole program herself.
The problem it addresses
Parkinson’s shrinks movement. Steps get shorter, arm swing reduces, handwriting gets smaller, and the voice gets quieter. The hard part is that this is not obvious from the inside. The internal sense of how big a movement is recalibrates along with the movement itself, so a shortened step genuinely feels like a normal step to the person taking it.
That is why simply being told to take bigger steps rarely holds. The protocol works on the calibration, by training movements at an amplitude that feels excessive until the feeling of “too big” and the reality of “normal” line back up.
Why we deliver it at home
Sixteen sessions in four weeks means sixteen trips out of the house inside a month, arranged for someone whose mobility is precisely the reason for the referral. Each one needs a car, usually a driver, a parking space, and the energy to do it on top of the session itself.
Families drop out of this protocol over logistics rather than over the therapy. It is a real and under-discussed reason that people do not finish a program that could have helped them.
We remove the trip. And because we are in your home, the functional work happens in the actual environment you live in: your stairs, your rugs, the step down to the lanai, the bathroom, the chair you actually get out of twenty times a day. Clinic flooring is nothing like where people actually fall.
What is included
The $2,400 program covers the complete 16-session protocol, all custom program materials, and pre-program and post-program functional tracking, so progress is measured rather than estimated. Every session is delivered by Dr. Lindsey Bolin.
The measurement matters. Four weeks is long enough that impressions drift, and having the same functional tests at the start and the end means you find out what actually changed.
Being straight about what this is
LSVT BIG is a treatment for the movement symptoms of Parkinson’s. It is not a cure and it does not slow the disease. What it targets is how big your movements are and how well that translates into the things you do every day.
Whether it is right for you depends on where you are, and the evaluation is where that gets decided honestly. If Lindsey does not think this is the right program for you at this point, she will tell you so and explain what would serve you better.
